Abstract

Background. The urgency of our study due to the recently observed in many developed countries marked downward trend in the birth rate, one of the causes of which is the disruption of spermatogenesis in adult males. Despite a large number of studies on the susceptibility of male seminal glands to various negative factors, which include heavy metals, many questions still remain unresolved. The question of the influence of lead salts on the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of spermatozoa is unclear. The aim of the work was to study the viability, as well as quantitative and qualitative changes in epididymal spermatozoa of male white rats with lead
intoxication affecting their reproduction.
Material and methods. The study material was the epididymal spermatozoa of white male rats obtained from the epididymis. The concentration of live and dead spermatozoa was measured using an automatic Countess ™ cell counter (Invitrogen, USA). The morphological and morphometric parameters of the epididymal spermatozoa of male white rats were studied using an Axio Imager.M2 digital microscope (ZEISS, Japan).
Results. In the course of the studies it was shown that in animals of the experimental group under the action of lead acetate in comparison with the control there is a decrease in the concentration of living sperm, their morphological and morphometric characteristics were significantly changed.
Conclusions. The results of studies indicate an adverse effect of lead acetate on male sex cells of male white rats, leading to a decrease in their viability.
